A Herrin man is behind bars on a charge of resisting a peace officer.

40-year old Derek Odam was allegedly attempting to prevent firefighters from battling a house fire Sunday night.

According to police, Odam became argumentative with firefighters, and attempted to grab a fire hose that firefighters were planning to use. Odam was ordered to leave the immediate area by a Herrin firefighter and a Herrin police officer. Odam refused and was arrested.

Odam was charged with resisting a peace officer, and was also wanted on an outstanding warring in Williamson County for failure to appear in court.

Odam was unable to post bond and was taken to the Williamson County Jail.
