CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP) — A Carbondale-based nonprofit group is raising money online to fix 12 of its furnaces that were damaged by a power surge last year.

Reports state The Women’s Center raised in just 30 hours more than $2,000 of the $3,000 it hoped to raise to recover money it spent after last November’s thunderstorm caused a power surge that damaged most of the furnaces at its Carbondale headquarters.

The center that helps victims of domestic violence and sexual assault had never tried an online fundraiser before. But officials there were so encouraged by all the donations that they say they might turn to the Internet again to raise money.
