PEORIA, Ill. (AP) — The Illinois state superintendent of schools says the outcome of the governor’s race won’t make a difference for the state’s education funding problems.

Illinois State Superintendent of School Chris Koch spoke Monday in Peoria to about 600 school leaders at the first day of the Illinois Principal Association conference. The Journal Star reports that he says “revenue is going to continue to be a problem no matter who’s elected.”

Incumbent Democratic Gov. Pat Quinn is in a tight race with Republican candidate Bruce Rauner in the Nov. 4 election.

Koch says a fully funded education budget for Illinois would need an additional $3 billion to $4 billion.
