CHICAGO (AP) — A group led by Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner will present oral arguments in its ongoing court battle to get a term limits measure on the November ballot.

The Committee for Legislative Reform and Term Limits ran a signature-driven effort to limit lawmakers to eight years in office and change the size of the Illinois House and Senate, among other things. However, a Cook County judge ruled the effort unconstitutional after a lawsuit was filed.

The group is set to appeal that decision Thursday before the Chicago-based First District Appellate Court.

If the appellate court doesn’t reverse the Cook County judge’s ruling, the committee wants the court to urge the Illinois Supreme Court to change an earlier decision. The high court declined to immediately hear the lower court’s ruling.
