A group of mosquitoes that were caught in West Frankfort and Ziegler have tested positive for West Nile Virus. The positive results came from routine checks by the Illinois Department of Public Health, which were then reported to the Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department.

Batches of mosquitoes with West Nile Virus have already been detected in Jackson, Gallatin, and Saline Counties.

Most people infected with the virus won’t show any symptoms, but some do become ill anywhere between 3 days and 2 weeks after the infection.
