A Carbondale man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to robbing the SIU Credit Union in Carbondale on February 3.

33 year old David White said that he and 29 year old Jonathon Whitehead of Carbondale drove to the institution with the intentions of robbing it, according to the Southern Illinoisan.

White was given more than $6,000 after the robbery, then fled to a getaway vehicle which was abandoned after the car failed to operate.

White was arrested by Carbondale Police a short time later after officers determined who owned the vehicle.

White will receive credit for 163 days of time already served.
