Carbondale, Ill. – Authorities in Jackson County say they’ve identified the first two batches of mosquitoes with West Nile in the county this year.

The Jackson County Health Department says the mosquitoes were found during a check on July 18th south of Carbondale. A dead crow in the same area was found July 11th with the virus as well.

18 counties have reported West Nile virus birds or mosquitoes, but no human cases this year. Last year, 11 people died from West Nile.
