BENTON, Ill. (AP) — A man from West Frankfort has been found fit to stand trial in the alleged murder of his wife.

Franklin County Judge Jerry Crisel ordered 66-year-old John P. Adams to appear for a pre-trial conference Sept. 3 after reviewing a fitness evaluation yesterday.

Adams is charged with two counts of murder in the shooting of his wife, Kendra, on April 1. She died the next day.

Adams initially told police he found his 52-year-old wife — who had a gunshot wound in the back of her head — unresponsive in their residence. But authorities claim Adams later confessed to the shooting.

A gun officials say is consistent with the type of injury Kendra Adams suffered was recovered from the house.
