A recent poll from Capitol Fax and We Ask America shows Republican gubernatorial candidate Bruce Rauner with an edge over incumbent democrat Pat Quinn.

The poll says Rauner has a 51-39 percent edge over Quinn in a poll conducted July 8 among 940 likely voters. 30 percent of those calls were made to mobile phones.

Downstate respondents chose Rauner over Quinn, 64-25 percent. When asked if Rauner’s tax issues would make them less likely to vote for him, 59 percent of downstate respondents said it would.

A recent report said Rauner didn’t pay any social security or Medicaid taxes in 2010 and 2011 through tax loopholes. Quinn has pressed Rauner to release his most recent returns.
