HARRISBURG, Ill. (AP) — Teams of mine rescuers from across the region will compete next week at a contest to show off their skills at a community college in southern Illinois.

Southeastern Illinois College said in a news release that the third annual Mine Rescue competition will be held June 10 and 11.

A number of teams from Illinois coal mines will compete against teams from West Virginia, Indiana and Kentucky.

The competition includes first aid scenarios, equipment use, search and rescue and firefighting.
