Marion, Ill – Marion Police have a new facility.

City officials unveiled the building earlier this month. The facility at 1001 W. DeYoung Street used to be National Guard Armory.

“Unfortunately, the police department for many, many years has been treated like a foster child,” Marion Mayor Bob Butler says.

“They’ve been in the second story of city hall, they’ve been in the basement of city hall,” Butler says. “It’s really been sad, but we have corrected those many, many years of police department abuse and we’ve got a major, major facility now.”

Butler says the renovations to the building cost around $2 million dollars.
