SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — An audit has found Southern Illinois University had $33,000 in cash stolen from its Carbondale student health center and $7,000 from an electronic money system at its Edwardsville campus.

The report by Auditor General William Holland on Thursday shows the two campuses are also missing more than 200 computers.

The audit found the school didn’t implement measures to discover the missing cash for nearly two years. Officials are pursuing criminal cases in the cash thefts.

University officials told Holland theft-prevention procedures weren’t implemented in some departments.

A spokeswoman from SIU Edwardsville was not familiar with the audit and couldn’t comment. A Carbondale spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The audit also uncovered multiple breaches of confidential student information at the two campuses.
